What Are Platysmal Bands?

Platysmal bands are the visible vertical “cords” in the neck. They’re formed by the medial edges of the platysma muscle, which separate at the midline with aging and become more prominent, especially during contraction (when speaking or exerting).

Treatment Options

Botulinum Toxin (Nefertiti Lift)

Temporarily relaxes the muscle. Results last 3-4 months. Good for mild bands.

Platysmaplasty (Surgical Correction) Definitive solution: suturing the platysma edges at the midline. Part of Deep Neck.

The Platysmaplasty Technique

In platysmaplasty, the medial edges of the platysma muscle are identified, approximated, and sutured at the midline, creating a muscular “corset” that defines the cervicomental angle and permanently eliminates the bands.
