Modern Face®

A Surgical Philosophy for the Contemporary Patient

The "classic" facelift patient — someone who has never received injectable treatments — is now the exception. Modern Face® is a surgical philosophy designed for the majority of patients who arrive with tissue already altered by fillers and bioestimulators.

The Shift No One Talks About

Every facial surgery textbook, every traditional training program, every "classic" technique was developed for a patient population that barely exists anymore.

Consider: most patients seeking facial rejuvenation surgery today have previously received facial fillers, bioestimulators (like Sculptra or Radiesse), or both. These treatments are ubiquitous. Your patients aren't arriving with virgin tissue — they're arriving with tissue that has been injected, stimulated, and altered multiple times.

This matters surgically because:

  • Planes are unpredictable. The sub-SMAS plane that Deep Plane relies upon? It may be disrupted by fibrotic nodules, migrated filler, or bioestimulator-induced collagen.
  • Tissue consistency varies. Areas that should dissect smoothly may be adherent. Tissue that should be mobile may be tethered.
  • Anatomical landmarks shift. Granulomas, fibrosis, and pseudo-capsules create unexpected structures that weren't in your training.
"We cannot keep operating on the Modern Face with techniques designed for the Classic Face. The tissue has changed. Our approach must change with it."
— Dr. Robério Brandão

The Modern Face® philosophy is Dr. Brandão's response to this reality. It's not about abandoning anatomical principles — it's about adapting them for the patients who actually walk into your office.

What Modern Face® Is NOT

close

Not a rejection of anatomy

Modern Face® is built on anatomical understanding — it simply acknowledges that the anatomy we encounter today is different from what textbooks describe.

close

Not a claim that other techniques are wrong

Traditional Deep Plane is excellent — for certain patients. Dr. Brandão teaches when to use each approach. Modern Face® is about matching technique to patient.

close

Not marketing language

This isn't a brand built for patient marketing. It's a framework for surgeons. The philosophy emerged from clinical necessity, not commercial strategy.

close

Not about avoiding complexity

Direct Vision doesn't mean simpler surgery. It means surgery where you see everything directly — which can actually be more demanding in terms of anatomical knowledge.
